In high traffic public spaces, specifically inside public transportation terminals, subway stations, trains and buses, which have existed in many cities for more than a century, there embedded is the imprint of human existence as well as the stamp of technological ware. Also, say in the balmy, dank tunnels of Manhattans subway stations, lingers what one cannot see, yet every traveler passes through. San Francisco based artist Lauren Kohne creates sculptural art-pieces. She investigates social structures, habits and standards through materiality in mixed media, painting and printmaking. She has received her Bachelor of Arts degree from San Francisco State University in 2003 and since has continued her studies in the Bay Area, France and New York. Her work has been shown in Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles as well as published in various poetry chap books.
